Everyone is always talking about the television shows you have to check out like "Gossip Girl" and "Lost" but what about the cartoons? There are so many great cartoons on television these days that are enjoyed by children and adults a like but people just don’t always admit they enjoy watching them. You can catch some of the best cartoons on television just by flipping through the channels on your satellite TV.
There was once a time when only children watched cartoons. Parents would turn on the television and change the channel to a cartoon so the children would be distracted and send time watching the TV rather than bothering the parents. Most parents would be working on something else in the room and didn’t care to watch the cartoons – or even if they sat with the children and watched, they didn’t admit to enjoying the shows. Then
"SpongeBob SquarePants" came around and changed the way people watch satellite TV.
"SpongeBob SquarePants" became a cartoon craze among children and adults in the United States of America. Young children were seen wearing SpongeBob shirts next to teenagers in the same style shirt just a bigger size. Girls and boys of all ages dresses as Sponge Bob for Halloween. Granted, some of those people were dressing in the costume as a joke, but they were still aware of who SpongeBob was and had probably watched the show and some point. SpongeBob changed the way people viewed cartoons and made it suddenly acceptable for adults to enjoy watching cartoons.
It was no longer unacceptable to watch cartoons on your high definition television as an adult. It was suddenly ok to turn the TV on and instantly flip past "Gossip Girl" and "Lost" to get to shows like "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Scooby-Doo." There were, of course, always cartoons that adults enjoyed watching such as "The Simpsons" and "South Park" but those cartoons were directed at an adult audience. They were viewed as a different type of cartoon that was always acceptable for adults because children didn’t watch it anyhow. There was never anything odd about a teenager turning on the big screen HD TV and watching "South Park" because it had all the things a teenager looks for in television – cultural comedy, fowl language and suggestive behavior.
While adults will continue to watch shows such as "South Park" and "The Simpsons" on their satellite TV packages, it’s also nice to know that they are watching more wholesome cartoons such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" and bridging the gap between the young children of our culture and the teenagers and adults. When you feel like watching a cartoon – be it one with suggestive behavior such as "South Park" or one with oddly shaped characters such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" – all you need is satellite TV and a good sense of humor. It doesn’t matter how old you are; you’re never to old to watch good, classic cartoons (though you may be too young to watch a few of them).
