There is not much room for the big boys in Major League Baseball. Either you are a playoff team or you are one of the many outsiders wishing you were a part of the scene. Frankly, the baseball playoffs are more exclusive than any other sport’s, making the stretch run one of the most exciting events of the year. California satellite TV networks are covering this run, in a year in which many teams from the state are in the playoff mix. Check out these heavy hitters with the exclusive baseball packages.

1. San Diego. Who is the team which has controlled the NL West for the majority of the year? It isn’t Colorado, Los Angeles or San Francisco. Naturally, it isn’t the Arizona Diamondbacks either. The San Diego Padres have just about run the table in the West, working over the competition early and making it stick since early June. Have you seen this team go on the Padres HD Channel 4? The team is a marvel of hitting and pitching, using the advantage of home Petco Park to the extreme.

2. Cincinnati. The Reds are another big surprise on the baseball scene. After getting clobbered by the Phillies and Cardinals in important series, they came on to pull away in the Central. Joey Votto, the fiery Canadian who is an MVP candidate, has led the charge for Cincinnati. Among other highlights of the season, the July series was thrilling for the entire baseball community. By the way, have you heard about the Cuban pitcher who can throw 105 mph? Check out the Reds on satellite TV baseball networks.

3. San Francisco. If you want to see a pitching staff with teeth, check out the San Francisco Giants. They have enthralled California satellite TV viewers all summer long. There is Cain, there is Sanchez, there is Zito and of course there is Lincecum. Mix in the Giants’ lineup acquisitions and you have a legitimate contender. How far will this team go? Most people believe it’s as far as their bats and their middle relief can carry them.

4. New York Yankees. The big team from the Bronx is back again from the abyss. Then again, maybe it was just the hyper New York media which created the myth that the Yankees were terrible. For a team that lost its best hitter (A Rod), its second best pitcher (Pettitte) and its best middle reliever (Alfredo Aceves), they are doing just fine.

5. Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa has had a beguiling season. They have been one of the best pitching teams in the major leagues, yet their best starters have been bombed on numerous occasions. Will their lineup even find consistency? Will their middle of the rotation starters step it up in the postseason? These questions will linger until crunch time. Check them out on the Rays HD network.
