Purchasing a home security system is a big investment. A lot of money (up to a thousand dollars), time, and effort goes into paying for the system, having it installed, and performing routine maintenance checks on it. Luckily if you are a Virginia resident currently in the market for a new security system, you will have a number of different options to choose from that can give you some flexibility in terms of how much you spend and how burdensome the installation and upkeep of your system is. Remember, though, that at the end of the day, ensuring the safety of your loved ones and belongings is going to be more important than cutting corners. This is why it is important to be an educated consumer and have a good understanding of the products that you are looking at as well as your personal security needs.

As mentioned above, there are a lot of different security systems being sold these days, and choosing the one that is right for you will ultimately be a matter of assessing your needs and figuring out which system best addresses them. The following list will give you an idea of some of the various home alarm systems that you will be looking at.

1. Burglar alarm systems. Systems that fall into this category work to protect your home from both the inside and the outside. These systems tend to include a combination of sensors that detect intruders in different ways. Pressure sensors are positioned on the inside of your doors and under the floorboards or carpets and will trigger your alarm to sound if someone opens the door or steps on one of them. Such alarm systems are among the most affordable options on the market nowadays. However, they do not provide all the depth and multiple layers of protection that some of the more expensive systems have to offer. They are pretty one dimensional.

2. Glass-break alarm systems. These systems tend to have all of the basic components that make up the simpler burglar alarms, but they also incorporate glass-break sensors on the windows. If someone enters your home by breaking a window rather than opening a door, the sensors on the inside of the door will not be very helpful. This is where the glass-break sensors come in. They fill in the holes left by the other sensors.

3. Monitored home alarm systems. By themselves, neither of the above two options will be the most effective. This is because they rely on the power of the alarm itself to scare off potential intruders. To get the best protection, it is a good idea to enlist the help of a professional monitoring service. With a monitored security system, when the alarm goes off, an automatic signal is sent to a representative in your company's monitoring center. This person will then call your home to determine whether or not there is an actual emergency and then send police or fire department units to respond in person if necessary.

4. Panic button alarm systems. A variation on the monitored system, these systems include portable panic buttons that can taken with the owner throughout the house and pressed if need be to alert the authorities. This comes in handy if an intruder somehow manages to sneak past the door, window, and glass-break sensors without triggering an alarm. If the homeowner is at home and realizes what is going on, they can easily call for help. The panic button can also be a useful tool to elderly or handicapped homeowners who may need to call for help in the event of a medical emergency but may not be able to reach a phone to do so.

Comparing homealarmsystems is the first step towards protecting your Virginia home from crime. For maximum security, choose an ADT Home alarm.
