Traditional utility companies can be a pain to deal with, and working with the cable company or your local phone utility for your high speed internet service is no exception. They're slow to respond to issues, require a great deal of setup to get the service right, and their overpriced rental equipment is often subject to frequent breakdowns. With the new availability of high speed wireless 4G internet, many people are asking themselves whether wireless is truly a viable alternative to traditional high speed internet service.

One reason that most people consider this switch is that cable service is simply not available to everybody in the country. Many people who live in rural areas or mountain regions simply can't get service. In addition, cable companies often have stringent "package" requirements for service. They usually provide you with outdated modems and equipment that have already passed through several hands by the time it gets to you. And, nobody likes waiting for hours for the installation man to arrive to get everything hooked up correctly.

Contract requirements, or "package" requirements as mentioned above are also a frequently cited reason for dissatisfaction with cable utility companies. In such situations, they usually require you to have a certain level of cable TV service in order to receive a reasonable price on high speed internet. This makes you obtain either TV cable service you might not need, or pay an extremely high price for high speed internet. In many cases, it's structured in such a way that the price for internet is so high, that it seems silly not to just purchase the cable package you didn't want in the first place.

DSL from your local phone company is another option, but presents many of the same service problems that accompany high speed internet service. They're slow to respond to customer issues, and even slower to come out to your home for a service call. DSL is usually slower than cable, but can cost just as much. They often employ the same techniques to force you into buying long-distance home phone service with your internet. In fact, most companies actually require home phone service in order to get high speed internet at all. In the age of cell phones, many users have no use for home phones.

Contract requirements with both options are also extremely limiting. Most prices advertised for broadband are less expensive than mobile broadband, but they go up two or three times their original cost after 3 or 6 months. This type of bait-and-switch tactic is also bringing customers to new 4G mobile WiMax technology. With mobile wireless internet, you get fast speeds that are comparable to DSL. Streaming video and audio are no problem, and service extends into nearly all major metropolitan areas. In addition, with your mobile air card, your service can go where you do. If you take a trip out of town, you don't have to worry about buying internet from the hotel. This makes mobile broadband technology both easy and convenient. With reliable equipment and top-notch customer service, more and more mobile professionals and at-home users are finding that mobile wireless internet is indeed a viable alternative to traditional utility companies.

For a clear advantage in wireless internet, check out the new options available for wireless 4G coverage. Just because you want high speed internet doesn't mean you have to suffer through interacting with the phone company.
