Have you ever missed an important episode of your favorite television show and then had no idea what was going on the following week? Chances are if you have other things going on in your life, you often forget about even your most beloved programs. When life get busy, this is often the first thing to go. Yet when you have a few minutes free, there is nothing you would like more than to relax in front of your HD flat screen and catch up on your shows. Now it's possible to have all of your favorite shows at your fingertips, anytime of the day. You can be sure to catch that season premiere of LOST, or that great sports game, that happened to fall on the night you were working late at the office.

Now, most satellite television and cable providers offer a service called digital video recording, or DVR. The receiver looks the same as your normal cable or satellite TV receiver except with a DVR receiver, you have the ability to program the machine to tape any show that you want to see. The programs are saved onto the receiver and you can play them back and watch them any time you'd like, as often as you would like. The receivers also have a large amount of memory. That way, if you go on vacation, all your programs will be taped, and you won't have to worry about the memory filling up. Some DVR receivers will tape up to 100 hours of television.

DVR receivers also have a lot of other useful features. Video playback allows you to pause and rewind live television. This is a great feature for sports programs if you missed that original play and want to see it in its uninterrupted, original form. Or maybe you missed an important line in that foreign movie everyone has been talking about. You can rewind and replay as many times as you want with DVR. You can also record two different programs at the same time, while watching another previously recorded program. You have the option of recording one episode of a show, or you can record the entire season. There are a lot of different options with a DVR receiver, all designed to make your viewing easier and more convenient. You can even set the DVR to tape programs that feature a favorite director or actor, which is a nice feature for people on the go who don't have time to research what's out there.

Another new option that is exciting for television fans is DVR in high definition. There are now special DVR receivers that have the ability to record HD programs in their original HD form. This wasn't an option previously. This can be an especially useful function for sports fans, action movie fans, or anyone who wants to see their favorite programming in crystal clear HD.

What's the point of having cable or satellite TV when you miss half of the shows you want to see? For only a little bit more, you can watch all these shows at your own convenience with DVR.
