Imagine going on safari in an African savannah, or hacking your way through the dense foliage of an Amazon rainforest. Imagine the thrill of coming face to face with wild nature, but also the bugs, heat, disease, discomfort, and drama. Luckily, with high definition television, available through satellite, you can experience the next best thing to actually visiting untamed nature in its own environment, without any risk to yourself.

Nature documentaries and television programs have been around for decades. One of the most famous historical nature programs was "Wild Kingdom." Many of the conventions developed in "Wild Kingdom" carry forward into today's nature shows. National Geographic has put together numerous shows about nature that more or less follow the "Wild Kingdom" model. These programs tend to be serious and scientific. Great care is taken to observe animals in their natural environment without creating any disturbance to their environment or discomfort to the animals. Scholarly treatment is given to animal behavior, and while moments of pure aesthetic pleasure often abound in these documentaries, emphasis is also put on the harsh realities of nature, in terms of animals attacking other animals, or of the negative effects on the environment caused by human beings.

Other television shows dealing with nature often take the fashionable "extreme" angle now used to sell everything from sports drinks to home and building construction supplies. There are numerous nature "countdown" programs, focusing on the "top 10" most dangerous animals, the top 10 most vicious predators, the top 10 largest animals in a particular environment, and so on. Many of these "extreme" programs focus on close interactions with dangerous animals. The result is that, especially when viewed in HD television, nature can come to life in a way clearer than ever before. It's possible that people, such as children, who find it hard to get their heads around nature and become interested in it, might become more interested in nature programs shown with greater fidelity than was possible with traditional television.

Speaking of children, there are numerous nature programs oriented directly at children. Children have long been fascinated with the activities of animals, and exposing them to animal programming from an early age may be a way to further develop these interests, and also help them to concern themselves with the environment from a very early age. Interacting with animals can be an important way to develop empathy in children that can serve them well in interpersonal relationships and in professional life. With advances in television technology, nature programs on satellite TV can supplement the interactions that children have with nature and animals in the real world and assist in their development. Also, nature programs can be a great way for families to spend time together and discuss the lessons that can be learned from these various programs.

Satalite Tv provides a number of ways for you to enjoy animals and the great outdoors even when a trip to the African savannah, the Arctic tundra, or the Amazon jungle is simply not practical. High definition Cable television can provide an engaging way to learn more about the animal kingdom and engage children in enjoying the natural beauty of our planet.
