Whether or Internet service is a mobile broadband or wired connection, there are a number or reasons why it may not be performing to its full potential. If you feel like your Internet connection is not as fast as it could be or ought to be, then there are some things that you can do to try to speed it up. If you are using a computer (rather than a mobile phone) to access the Internet, then the first and probably most effective measure you can take is to "clean up" your computer. To do this, you can do things like delete excessive files to create more memory space on your hard drive and run a virus scan to detect problems that might be responsible for slowing things down.

If that does not do the trick, here are some more tips on how to make your fixed or mobile broadband connection the best that it can be:

1. Contact your wired or mobile broadband service provider and find out if there are any better deals out there that you should be taking advantage of. New upgrades may have been made available since the last time you made adjustments to your Internet package, and signing up for them can sometimes even save you money on your monthly fees in addition to making your connection faster.

2. Make adjustments to your temporary Internet files and cache settings. These are tools that are meant to increase the speed and fluidity of your web searches. They do this by saving a local copy of images or text from a website that you visit so that when you visit it again, these files do not have to be downloaded a second time. This ultimately allows the page to load more quickly. To optimize your use of these tools, set them to run automatically, but make sure they do not use more than two percent of your overall available hard drive space (or around 512 megabytes).

3. If you are using a Wi-Fi router, check to make sure that there is no interference due to it bieng within close proximity of a cordless or mobile broadband phone. If there are too many wireless signals being sent to too many devices throughout the same area, then this could result in slower connections. To avoid such problems, keep these devices away from each other, especially when they are in use.

4. Stop and reset. When it comes to wireless and mobile broadband networks, if you experience a lag in your connection speed, sometimes all you need to do in order to fix it is reboot your system. To do this, simply unplug your wireless router or modem, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This will reboot your network and often eliminate the problem.

5. Restrict access to your network by creating a password. If your network is not password-protected, anyone within range can essentially steal your service, and connection speeds are slower when multiple people are using the same network at the same time.
