With the NBA All-Star weekend over and the second half of the season already under way, it's time to start thinking about the perfect NBA Finals viewing parties. Maybe you already have a group of friends that you watch all the games with. Get everyone together and go over these tips to transform your group members into the ultimate fans.
1. HDTV
The subtitle just about says it all. If you were even considering watching the game on a regular TV, you aren't a true fan. There is a world of difference between high resolution TV and regular TV. The Finals have been broadcast in high resolution for quite a few years now. Not to mention that if your buddies are used to watching games with that kind of clarity, you don't want to disappoint them. You are therefore left with two options. You could finally make that big step into the 21st century and purchase one. However, if you are a cheapskate and still aren't ready for the beauty of HD in your own home, you could try to borrow one of your buddy's TVs. What a hassle. Not to mention that you will need a cable or satellite service that provides high resolution channels.
2. Seating
If you have a big group, you want to make sure you have enough seating for everyone. A good rule of thumb is to have one seat for every person that is coming. It's unacceptable to have someone sitting on the floor or standing up. Reposition your living room or TV room if you have to. Make sure you have TV trays or tables nearby to place the food and drinks on, as well. Lastly, remember that uncomfortable folding chairs should be a last resort.
3. Great food
Instead of going all out to cook a meal, the guys would probably enjoy a smattering of less-than-healthy appetizers. Don't try to be healthy here. Sports events are not the time to get fancy either. Keep things simple. Everybody loves food to munch on. Those appetizers can sit out during the whole game and people can eat throughout. Among the great appetizers that come directly to mind are: pigs-in-a-blanket, small sandwiches, chips, guacamole, chili, etc. Or if you don't feel like doing all that kind of work, even if it means just running to the store, why not order a few pizzas instead? Drinks are the easiest part. Beer, and lots of it. Don't forget to have a few soda choices, too.
4. Rotation
The NBA Playoffs aren't like other sports championships, like the Super Bowl, as you well know. The series could go as many as seven games. For that reason, it's a good idea to have a schedule made as to the house where each game will be watched. Split it up between group members. It's easier to split the costs if the person hosting sets everything up and buys the food and drinks, instead of chipping in money every night. Just have the party at a different person's home for each night of the series.
