Oklahoma City got a professional basketball team just under two years ago. The Oklahoma City Thunder is not only a brand new franchise, but is also filled with players that together make the youngest NBA team in the country. Their fans are loud, proud, and truly some of the best fans out there. So it should come as no surprise that OKC fans have organized large house parties to view the games.

The problem with being a new team from a relatively small media market like Oklahoma City is that your favorite teams will likely not be highly covered by the national media. Of course, having an NBA star like Kevin Durant on your team like OKC does gives you more media coverage, but it is not yet enough to offset the lack of coverage experienced by this new team. If you live outside of the television market designated for OKC, then you will not catch the games.

Jackson signed up for the United States armed forced just over five years ago. He is from northwest Oklahoma City, and he is a huge Thunder fan. Last November he was transferred from his reserve base just outside of Oklahoma City to South Carolina. He and his five best friends had gone in together and bought two season tickets last season, the Thunder's inaugural season, and shared them among each other for the 41 home games. This year, Jackson was at risk of missing the games all together. When stationed far from your home state, you don't generally pick up the locally covered games. Only a few big games a year are covered by the likes of ABC or ESPN.

Instead, Jackson decided to get satellite TV. Being the big sports fan that he was, Jackson didn't have to think twice about the decision. It offered all the Thunder games all season long in high definition. He ended up inviting all of his friends over for some of the big games. For example, when OKC beat the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of the season, Jackson and seven friends were watching it with satellite TV hundreds of miles away.

George and Charlene, despite their turning 85 years old this past fall, are avid Thunder fans. The problem is, when they retired over 2o years ago, they eventually settled in Florida, where most Thunder games are not shown. They still catch the occasional big match up that is shown on ESPN, but OKC only had a total of seven games covered in such a way. The other 75 games were shown by local channels, such as Oklahoma Fox Sports Net.

Instead of remaining in the dark when it came to the Thunder season, George had satellite Internet installed in their home. He and Charlene were able to watch the Thunder all season as they improved their winning record by 27 games in one season, one of the largest single-season turnarounds in NBA history. They didn't care so much for the HD that they received, but rather the simplicity of their satellite TV system. They never have problems with it or the connections, which is important to them since they are not up-to-date on new technology.

By the middle of the season, they had started inviting their friends over to watch the game. If you don't believe that the Thunder has captured the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans in a short period of time, then look to southern Florida where you will find a group of senior citizens huddled around a television watching the Thunder each week.

These watch parties were both made available through satellite TV. Whether you are away from home by choice or by necessity, you don't have to miss all your favorite local sports. Let satellite technology connect you back home.

Check out all the direct tv packages and start your sporting event watch parties tomorrow. With direct tv, you don't have to miss your favorite team's games simply because you live outside of their local viewing area.
