It's hard to believe anything has been on the Internet for more than a decade, but "The Onion" certainly fits that bill. More than one of the Internet's oldest humor sites, "The Onion" is a shared experience for much of Generation X, and is still going strong today. With a wireless Internet service, you can spend some time enjoying the years of content this website has to offer, and all of the new surprises it will surely be coming out with soon.

First and foremost, "The Onion" is a satirical media outlet (while most people think of it as a newspaper, it now publishes satirical radio and TV broadcasts as well). While it may not have invented the parody news genre, it is certainly the undisputed king of this art form. Founded as a newspaper at the University of Wisconsin in 1988, the newspaper was published and circulated in many college towns until it launched its now-famous website in 1996. Instantly, "The Onion" became a hit among college students nationwide, roughly at the same time broadband Internet service was beginning to become standard in college dorm rooms. Since then, "The Onion" has published numerous compilations of its work as well as original material parodying historical and news events of the 20th century. The website of "The Onion" also contains its "AV Club" section, which provides humorous and sometimes serious commentary on real-life pop cultural events.

Possibly the best part of "The Onion" is that it parodies the self-important, vacuous style of much of written and television journalism. Some of the humor of the newspaper deals with applying deadpan journalistic style to seemingly absurd events, while others deals with the tenor of the coverage itself. Even when events can't reasonably be expected in any way to be the subject of a tasteful joke, news coverage in the U.S. has become so laughably absurd that it is always ripe for parody. This was demonstrated no better than in "The Onion's" first issue after the 9/11 attacks on the United States, events which obviously could not be parodied. Instead, many of its post 9/11 articles dealt with parodying the way the events were treated by the media. Luckily, the publication maintains all of its archives on the Internet, and you can access issues even from years past with wireless Internet service.

Lately, "The Onion" has been putting clips from its fictional "Onion News Network" up on its website. These clips are clear parodies of the 24-hour "infotainment" circus that passes for news programming on most cable news networks, and ably skewer the sanctimonious style of the anchors that host the programs. While you can watch the Onion's videos with any wireless Internet service, you can also catch full-length 30 minute "Onion News Network" programs on the Independent Film Channel in the United States.

The website clearwirelessinternet.net can provide you with a wireless Internet service you can use to browse "The Onion" and all of the Internet's top humor sites.
