Some people don't like to have options. And perhaps, in a perfect world, that wouldn't be a problem. Their available options would provide everything that they could possibly want and more at an affordable price. Unfortunately, what tends to happen is that when competition is absent, the available options become lackluster and their innovation stagnates. It then stands to reason that, in general, the more choices a consumer has the better. Satellite TV subscribes to this concept and tries to give more choices to television viewers.
Television was initially only broadcast over the air with limited programming content. For many years it was the same programs on at the same time every week. In the day time, talk shows would rule the air waves. In the evening, sports broadcasts would dominate. In between those two, news segments were shown and covered mainly local topics. With so few channels, there were not very many choices.
Cable TV stepped in to give viewers what they had been looking for. Cable was initially the only other viable option to over-the-air television. It began as a promising alternative that showcased a few movie channels and news programs. These news programs began to be referred to as cable news programs even though today they are broadcast on satellite TV as well. But credit has to be given where credit is due. A special thanks has to be given to cable for pioneering a new way to enjoy television. To be fair, as a result, regular over-the-air television decided that it was time to introduce fresh and new programming. Even so, it still cannot keep up with the all the options that competitors can provide.
Unfortunately for cable, the torch has been passed. Satellite TV is now beginning to dominate the way people watch television. It can be installed anywhere without having to worry about a cable company and whether or not the appropriate infrastructure is present. This is because a satellite dish can have television beamed to it over the air from space. In addition, satellite TV service fed off the original spirit of cable and implemented innovation if its own. It offers even more choices, with dozens of sports, movie and news channels to choose from. And because of the competition posed by cable and even over-the-air television, satellite television service providers price their services aggressively. When you think about it, satellite service combines the choices of cable and the accessibility of over-the-air television, and so much more.
All in all, it's a win-win situation for consumers because they can have their cake and eat it to. They have the freedom to choose who to subscribe with. They get the freedom to choose what they watch and when. And because of the competition, they won't have to pay an arm and a leg for this advanced technology. The real winner of the fight between over-the-air television, cable and satellite service is clear: the consumer.
Which service reigns supreme? You can try them all out yourself or you can follow the path of innovation and choose satellite TV.
