Here's a list of some of his best:

This captivating film, directed by the late and great Stanley Kubrik, was based on the 1926 novella Traumnovelle by Arthur Schnitzler. In fact, "Eyes Wide Shut" turned out to be the last film Stanley Kunrick would ever make. Tom Cruise does a brilliant job portraying Dr. Bill Harford. Dr. Hartford is married with children, but finds himself tempted by other women, as is wife is temped by other men. This film deals with marriage and monogamy, and raises many interesting questions as to what it means to stay faithful in a marriage.

Magnolia

Many doubt the acting talents of Tom, but in "Magnolia" he proves to be truly capable when he gives himself over to a role. Tom plays the role of Frank "TJ" Mackie, who writes books and gives seminars on how to seduce women. Mackie is the ultimate chauvinist, but at the same time displays a deep sensitivity and vulnerability throughout the film. This shows the kind of dynamic Tom is capable of when given the chance. If you haven't had a chance, be sure check this one out.

Jerry Maguire

Who didn't like this film? Who can forget lines like "show me the money". This was an interesting role for Tom, as he plays the role of someone who had everything and lost it, but managed to pull it together and make a new life for himself. Maybe a little reminiscent of Tom's real life? Well, he didn't lose everything, but has sure had to rebuild his image after all the craziness he displayed a few years back. Top Gun

This is one of the most classic films of all times, and solidified Tom Cruise's status as a Hollywood icon. Tom plays the role of Maverick, the flying ace newly inducted into the Top Gun flying school. If you have the option, "Top Gun" is like a whole new experience when seen in high definition.

Born on the Forth of July

This is a powerful film directed by Oliver Stone. It portrays the true-life story of Ron Kovic who was bound to a wheelchair after being shot in the back in Vietnam. After Kovic comes home from the war, he finds himself increasingly conflicted with the unpopularity of the Vietnam War at the time. When he first comes home, he feels betrayed by the anti-war activists, feeling they take the sacrifice he made for granted. As the years go by, and after coming to terms with what happened to him, his views of the war begin to change as well. The wheelchair bound veteran in the end becomes an activist against the war himself.
