During the past few months, several intense storms have disrupted life across various parts of the United States. Global climate change has caused weather patterns to change a lot in recent years, and these changes have brought a lot of destruction to residential areas all over the country. As a result, there is a great need for many home repair projects because families need to rebuild so they can move on with their lives. Additionally, in areas that are particularly prone to natural disasters and destructive storms, there are a lot of preventative home improvement steps that residents can take in order to add additional protections to their houses.

To decrease the damage their houses are at risk for, one of the most important things that residents in all parts of the country can do is make sure the materials on the exterior of their house are strong and weather-resistant. In many parts of the country, wood or stucco have been used as the materials for the outside of homes, but there are some more modern materials that are much more practical to use. By placing plastic siding on the outside of your house, you can greatly reduce the amount of damage the outside of your house will likely receive. This newer material is very strong and able to resist damages that wood and stucco are not. When strong winds and rain continue to hit your property hard, the plastic will be able to easily withstand all of the pressures that are put on it. Additionally, if any damage actually does occur to the siding, you can simply take one panel of it off and replace that with new panels. After a storm has swept through your area, it’s likely that the outside of your house may be dirty, but other than a little dirt there is nothing to worry about. You won’t have to ever paint the plastic like you would if the outside of your house were covered with wood, and the plastic isn’t going to chip off as stucco sometimes does.

Another important thing you can work on strengthening your house is a window replacement project. Many older houses have been built with thin windows that don’t do a great job of insulating a house and they are much more prone to breaking as well. Newer windows are much thicker and stronger than older ones were, and you can quickly put new ones in for an affordable cost. Once you have completed the window replacement project, you will notice that your heating and cooling bills are lower on a regular basis because your house is better insulated. That helps you save money, and it also helps your family live more comfortably while there are large storms outside of your house. These energy efficient and storm resistant windows are a great addition to any house, especially these days when there are so many big storms affecting houses everywhere. By concentrating on these home renovation projects, you can greatly strengthen the exterior of your house and make it better able to withstand any storm that comes your way.
