There’s nothing that holds our attention quite as well as a good mystery or crime show. Crime shows hook us with intriguing setups, despicable villains, and of course, the suspense of wanting to find the killer. There have been countless mystery shows in the past, but they’re all easily accessible today in high quality on satellite TV. Here are a couple of the best.

One of the most classic detectives ever to exist, Sherlock Holmes clearly deserves a place on any mystery lover’s list of series to catch. Originally a series of short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, the classic stories have been updated into various television series throughout the years. Sherlock Holmes is an eccentric British detective who solves the mysteries the police can’t. With his assistant Dr. Watson, he takes on assignments from victims of crimes who don’t know where else to turn for help, and frequently is able to use subtle clues to solve some of the most elaborate mysteries imaginable. The original TV series dates back to the 1960s, but there is also a more modern version currently still in production in England. Sherlock Holmes is easily available on Satellite TV, check your listings for more on when to catch the show.

Next up is a decidedly more American take on a similar theme: Monk. Monk follows the life and criminal investigations of Adrian Monk, a detective in San Francisco who works in conjunction with the police department to solve cases and reveal unlikely killers. The show is currently out of production, but it still receives plenty of time on-air. Despite its criminal backdrop, the show is more light-hearted and frequently pokes fun at Monk’s quirks, such as his funny clothes and overly particular hygiene due to the fact that he has obsessive-compulsive disorder. Nonetheless, Monk’s eye for detail allow him to find clues that the cops can’t and solve mysteries. Check your local Satellite TV listings to find out when Monk is on.

One of the most acclaimed crime shows, and also one of the most acclaimed shows in general, is The Wire. Though currently out of production, the show occasionally still airs. Unlike the previous shows, The Wire features a plotline which runs throughout the season. And while it’s clearer who the bad guys are, you’re never sure what will happen next. The show is set in urban Baltimore and features an in-depth portrayal of the workings of both the police department and inner city gangs. While you may begin the series rooting for the cops, the deeply entangled web of back room deals and corruption leave you confused at the end, though still captivated. The Wire is noted for its high-quality dramatic actors and gripping production values as well. Get set up on satellite TV to see it today.

Even though we never want them to happen to us, it’s hard to deny that crime dramas have a unique appeal. And with Satellite TV, you never have to miss another clue. Go to www.directstartv.com to get set up today.
