Technology that makes our lives easier is easily integrated into everyday life. Technology that makes our lives easier that can be accessed even while you’re mobile is even more welcome. Take cell phones, for instance. While for generations, people relied heavily on home and office phones to keep in contact, since the advent of cellular phones, people have grown increasingly reliant on this mobile form of telecommunications. Instead of calling your friend at his landline, you tend to contact him on his cellular device. Similarly, mobile broadband technology is veering towards a similar trend. The mobility offered by these technological advances make the older, more restrictive technology less depended upon.
While landlines are still used in both homes and offices, ever since 2009, the year which marked when mobile phones surpassed landlines, people are relying more on their mobile devices, even opting to cancel their landlines. For instance, because cell phones are on the person at all times, they are more reachable if you contact their mobile devices. If they are out at the market, at school, or at work and you call their home phone, you won’t be able to reach them; however, if you contact them via cellular phone, the chances are increased infinitely. And because you are able to use cell phones everywhere (that there is decent reception), even your home, many people are cutting back the additional expenses of home phones.
A similar pattern might occur with internet connections. While currently, most people rely on traditional broadband connection like cable and DSL at home and in their offices, people are slowly coming to rely on mobile broadband connections on their smart phones, tablet computers, and laptop computers. This form of internet technology enables people to access the web from anywhere in the city that they receive reception. Instead of having to find a wireless internet connection at a café or run back to the office in order to look up some information, they will have a reliable and high speed connection directly on their mobile computers.
Currently, the 4G connection, which offers a broadband speed connection that you can use on-the-go, has not yet developed its reputation. It is still a relatively new technology and people will have to come to understand realize its benefits before they are willing to cancel their traditional broadband internet connection at home. Society has come to rely heavily on the worldwide web, so even one night of unstable internet connection at home can be a problem. Also, many people rely on the internet for their world—and even a few hours of unreliable internet connection can jeopardize their employment. Unless the mobile broadband connection proves to be as reliable as these traditional forms of high speed internet, many will continue to have both services because it enables them to ensure that they can log onto the web. However, should the technology—and it most likely will—become as reliable as cellular phones have for telecommunications, we might soon see mobile broadband subscriptions increasing and traditional broadband connections dropping.
